The
Boston editorial office of Hanging Loose Press offers internships
to graduate students and writers with an interest in small press editing
and publishing. Several of the Hanging Loose editors live and work
in the Boston area, and as a consequence much of the editorial and
other business is conducted there. Basic computer /word processing
skills are required. A minimum commitment of about 10 hours per week
is expected.

The following list is indicative of the kinds of activities an intern
might become involved in.
Magazine submissions:
- read magazine submissions, fill out routing slips to track submissions
- sit in on magazine quarterly editorial meetings, when final decisions
are made on what goes into an issue
- correspond with authors
Preparation of magazine manuscript for printing:
- assist in first copy editing of scanned material
- assist in preparing contributors' notes
- assist in magazine mailing list repairs
Book reviews & review copies:
- - update catalog of reviews received
- - assist with review mailings & follow-up calls
- - repair & update review mailing lists
- - catalog and maintain exchange copy library
Promotion/advertising:
- - write ad copy & place ads
- - book & magazine promotion: research contacts, make phone calls
- - readings/ authors tours: assist in setting up and publicizing readings
- - maintain bookstore list
Publication records:
- - fill out copyright applications for new titles
- - fill out CIP applications for new titles
Develop outreach to high schools/teachers
