After publishing Moonlight Standing in as Cordelia with Hanging Loose Press in 1980, Will Lane graduated from Gettysburg College with a major in classical Greek in 1982. After graduating, he gradually transitioned from the building trades, where he had worked for about a decade before college, to serve as a community activist; a photographer; a social worker and parent educator for Head Start; and as a teacher of writing and literature. Since 1995 he has taught at Gettysburg College in the English and Environmental Studies departments. He retired from his full-time position in 2020, but continues teaching part-time, offering courses focused on writing about environmental issues. Will holds an M.A. from the Graduate Institute at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and lives with his wife, Anne, in rural Adams County, Pennsylvania. Along with Moonlight Standing in as Cordelia, he has published several additional volumes of poetry including Elegy for Virginia Redding (1989) and In the Barn of the God (1999) both from Mad River Press of Richmond, Massachusetts; Trust Rust (2015) from Middle Street Bindery Press; and Kin (2022), a self-published collection.
