D. Nurkse is the author of twelve poetry collections, ranging from Shadow Wars (Hanging Loose, 1988) to A Country of Strangers (Knopf, 2022, a “new and selected”). A former poet laureate of Brooklyn, his work has been translated into many languages, and received the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters as well as fellowships from the Whiting, Tanne, N.E.A.. and Guggenheim foundations.
