Frances Phillips

Frances Phillips is the author of three books of poetry: The Celebrated Running Horse Messenger (Kelsey Street Press, 1979); For a Living (Hanging Loose Press, 1981) and Up at Two (Hanging Loose Press, 1991). She is now retired after a lengthy career in nonprofit organizations and philanthropy, having served as assistant director and director of The Poetry Center and American Poetry Archives at San Francisco State University; as executive director of Intersection for the Arts; and as director of the Arts and Creative Work Fund programs at the Walter & Elise Haas Fund. Phillips taught creative writing and grant-writing at San Francisco State University for more than thirty years. In addition to publishing poems in journals and magazines, her book reviews and writer interviews have appeared in Green Linden Press, The Hungry Mind Review, Poetry Flash, Ruminator Review, The San Jose Mercury News, The Washington Post, and other outlets. With her husband, Stan Hutton, she co-authored five editions of The Nonprofit Kit for Dummies.
