Joan Larkin

Joan Larkin has published six poetry collections, including Blue Hanuman (2014) and My Body: New and Selected Poems (2007), both from Hanging Loose Press, and Old Stranger (Alice James Books, 2024). She co-translated Sor Juana’s Love Poems with Jaime Manrique and has coedited four anthologies, including Gay and Lesbian Poetry in Our Time (St. Martin’s Press, 1988). She co-founded the women’s independent press Out & Out Books in the mid-1970s, which led to meeting Bob Hershon, one of the four founding editors of Hanging Loose Press, at the Print Center in Brooklyn. She has been a lifelong teacher. Her honors include Lambda, National Endowment for the Arts, and Shelley Memorial awards.
