Michael Lally

Michael Lally is the author of more than twenty books, among them Another Way To Play: Poems 1960-2017 (Seven Stories Press, 2018); Swing Theory (Hanging Loose Press, 2015); It’s Not Nostalgia (David R. Godine Publisher, 1999), an American Book Award winner; and Cant Be Wrong (Coffee House Press, 1996), recipient of the PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award for Excellence in Literature. His many other honors include two National Endowment for the Arts grants, the second of which was denounced on the floor of Congress by Republicans claiming Lally’s classic autobiographical epic My Life (Wyrd Press, 1975) was “pornography.” Lally has also written for The Washington Post, The Village Voice, and other publications. Also an actor and screenwriter, he has appeared in films like White Fang and Basic Instinct and on TV shows such as NYPD Blue and Deadwood. His popular blog, called Lally’s Alley, presents his passionate and eclectic views on poetry, music, politics, movies, and more.
