Ron Overton is the author of four poetry collections: Dead Reckoning (Street Press, 1979), Love on the Alexander Hamilton (Hanging Loose Press, 1985), Hotel Me: Poems for Gil Evans and Others (Hanging Loose Press, 1994), and Psychic Killed by Train (Hanging Loose Press, 2002). His poetry has been published in a wide array of magazines and anthologies, including Poetry, Exquisite Corpse, Kayak, Poetry Northwest, Salmagundi, Hanging Loose, Ohio Review, Minnesota Review, and many others. His prose has appeared in such disparate places as American Poetry Review and Beckett Hockey Monthly. An abiding interest in jazz has led to publication in Downbeat, Jazz Times, and the jazz anthology Second Set. He has been awarded fellowships from both the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. He has also taught poetry and composition widely to students of all ages, including over thirty years teaching in the department of Composition and Rhetoric at SUNY/Stonybrook in the department.
